With Chucky’s primary audience a mix of horror lovers, pop culture aficionados and queer identifying folks, New York Comic Con – which indexes high in each of these subcultures – was the perfect place to meet them with an experience that scares them into watching.

So, we put Chucky in the driver’s seat of a stolen “Good Guys” branded ice cream truck (a nod to the original fans of the franchise and its core theme - corruption of innocence). After killing the driver and vandalizing the truck with red spray paint and a few choice phrases, fans found Chucky had crashed the truck into New York Comic Con where it became Chucky’s I Scream Truck and he literally made fans scream for their ice cream.

Wait times reached over two hours

While guests waited, they could read the Hackensack Times and when they called the hotline they were greeted with a message from Chucky himself.

Inside the truck, fans were taunted by Chucky to scream for their ice cream then surprised by a jump scare when the ice cream driver popped out of the freezer. Screams could be heard throughout the building, attracting quite a crowd.

Fans received a video capture of their screams and, of course, blood-red ice cream to cool their nerves.

The creator of the Chucky franchise, Don Mancini, Chucky TV series star Zackary Arthur, and Child’s Play franchise star Alex Vincent even came to get scared.
